Planning a Gorge Wedding Weekend? Here's Where to Start

There's something about Hood River that just gets people. You arrive for a wedding and leave already planning your next trip back. Tucked along the Columbia River with Mt. Hood watching from the south and Mt. Adams to the north, it has this particular quality that's hard to put into words until you've spent a few days here.

If you're getting married in the Gorge, there's a good chance your guests are traveling from out of town. And honestly, that's one of the best parts. A Gorge wedding isn't just a wedding day. It's a whole weekend, and Hood River is very good at filling that weekend in the most wonderful ways.

Here's how we'd spend it.

Where to Rest Your Head

The Hood River Hotel is a historic property right in the heart of downtown, walkable to everything, with a great restaurant right in the lobby, and full of charm. The bridal suite is beautifully lit, which makes it a wonderful spot for getting ready photos if you're staying there the night before. For something a bit more modern and edgy, the Society Hotel just across the bridge in Bingen is hip, beautifully designed, and has a beautiful indoor/outdoor spa, which feels like exactly the right thing to have access to the weekend of your wedding.

The Coffee Situation (It’s Good)

Dog River Coffee is a Hood River staple and a local favorite for good reason. It's the kind of place that sets the perfect tone for a slow, easy morning. Save it for the days when you just need a quiet cup and a moment to breathe. Their breakfast burritos are a great breakfast or snack to enjoy on the go too (if your easy morning isn’t so slow)!

Morning Tables Worth Lingering Over

Need some more substance to kick off the day? For smaller, more intimate groups, Golden Goods is a gem. This adorable vegan sandwich and bake shop has unique and delicious flavor combinations and the kind of casual, feel-good energy that's perfect for a low-key wedding weekend morning. Don't forget your cookie on the way out, they’re some of the best we’ve ever had!

For larger groups looking for a private dining experience with a view, Hood River has a handful of restaurants that can accommodate bigger parties. It's worth reaching out directly to inquire about private event options, especially for weekend mornings during peak season.

Where to Kick Things Off

Welcome parties, rehearsal dinners and beyond… Ferment Brewing offers a beautiful indoor and outdoor space right on the waterfront in Hood River with room for a good sized group and an atmosphere that feels easy and celebratory all at once. The deck is outstanding! If you're looking for something a bit more intimate, Kickstand Coffee and Kitchen has a great bar, indoor and outdoor seating options, and can accommodate up to 125 people, making it one of the more flexible options in town for a welcome gathering.

A Space of Your Own

If you need a more intimate space for a smaller side event, The Garage in Bingen is worth knowing about. It's quaint, modern, and meticulously kept, comfortably hosting around 40 people with nearly everything you need already in place. A sweet option for a rehearsal dinner or a post-wedding brunch that feels a little more private.

Let Someone Else Handle the Food

For catering that comes to you, two of our favorites are Four and Twenty Blackbirds and Feast Catering. Four and Twenty features local, wholesome, gourmet food and can come right to you, which makes it a great option for a relaxed gathering at a rental house or outdoor space. Feast is based just across the river in White Salmon and is another wonderful option for quality catering without the fuss of a full restaurant booking.

The Gorge is Yours to Explore

The Gorge is extraordinary to move through, not just look at. For something that will absolutely bond your group, Wet Planet Whitewater Rafting on the White Salmon River is one of those experiences people talk about for years. If wine is more your speed, the Hood River Valley is surrounded by incredible vineyards and tasting rooms, and there are guided wine tour options that make exploring them easy and fun for a group.

Worth a Wander

In the mood for some shopping? The Ruddy Duck is a locals' favorite for a reason. Right next to Mike's Ice Cream, they have a full house of women's clothing, shoes and accessories that feels like a genuinely fun browse. Their textile and home goods imports section is full of unique goodies as well. And if you're in town on a Saturday between May and November, don't miss the Hood River Farmers Market at 501 Columbia Street from 9am to 1pm. It's one of those simple, perfect morning activities that makes guests feel connected to the place they've traveled to celebrate in.

The Night isn’t Over

Most Gorge venues wrap up by 10pm due to the county wide noise ordinance, so a little advance planning goes a long way if your crowd wants to keep going. The Oak Street Pub is a classic indoor and outdoor pub space right in downtown Hood River, easy to find, easy to love, and worth messaging ahead of time to give them a heads up your group is coming.
